Posted by admin Comments (0)

Democracy UK, a UK-focused political campaigning initiative by Facebook, has just released a number of mind-blowing stats on the massive usage of the network by its 500-plus million members in 2010. Over the course of the year, Facebook reports that 43,869,800 members changed their status to single, 3,025,791 changed their status to “it’s complicated”, 28,460,516 changed their status to in a relationship, 5,974,574 changed their status to engaged and 36,774,801 changes their status to married. While these numbers are impressive, Facebook’s stats on “what 20 minutes on Facebook looks like,” are even more staggering. According to Facebook, 1 million links are shared every 20 minutes on the network. Here are a few other stats listed:

McAfee: Smartphones, Apple devices to be top malware targets in 2011

Posted by admin Comments (0)

Traditionally, Windows’ massive user base has made it a juicy target for malware authors, but a new report from McAfee suggests there could be a major shift in 2011. The security company is predicting that attacks on the exploding smartphone segment and Apple devices will increase significantly.

Mac trojans have already become increasingly common in 2010, and McAfee finds that “lack of user understanding of proper security for these devices, will increase the risk for data and identity exposure.” This lack of understanding, coupled with the increased presence of iOS devices in business environments, will make Apple users a prime target for malware.

The report also finds smartphone users will face increased danger in 2011. With hundreds of millions of new users purchasing more powerful phones and spending more time browsing on them, increased attention from malware authors is a natural (albeit unwelcome) side effect. If the app store for your phone offers security applications, there’s no time like the present to read some reviews and get one installed.

Apart from smartphones and Apple devices, social engineering attacks (e.g. scams via Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and social networks) will continue to be big in 2011. McAfee asserts that personal information made available via geolocation apps and privacy lapses will allow attackers to better craft their attacks on individuals. There’s also no sign of viral attacks on social sites like Facebook and Twitter slowing down, and short URL services will continue to be used to hide malicious links. Here’s hoping more URL shorteners will look into pre-scanning their links to ensure our safety.

Apple’s Aperture 3.1.1 update improves iLife compatibility

Posted by admin Comments (0)
aperture

Apple has updated Aperture, its professional photo editing and management software, to version 3.1.1. This is an incremental update, so no earth-shattering surprises here, but if you’re an Aperture user you’ll be happy to find:

  • Better reliability when upgrading Aperture libraries created with older versions
  • Less buggy photo publishing to MobileMe, Facebook and Flickr
  • Improved compatibility with iLife Media Browser.

You can read the update release notes here and grab it via Software Update or direct from Apple, but you’ll need Mac OS X 10.5.8 or 10.6.2 or later to install.

The Washington Post Seems to Have Heard of this "Facebook" Site [Facebook]

Posted by admin Comments (0)

A well-designed website should be clear, above all. No flashing GIFs (we miss you, 90s!), no obnoxious flash menus, no overwhelming lists of links. And heads up, WaPo website: it shouldn’t be blanketed in insanely redundant Facebook sharing buttons. More »

Making The Most Of Facebook For Integrated Marketing Strategies

Posted by drivingtraffic Comments (0)

Facebook and Twitter have in recent times become the fresh platform to base your marketing strategy upon. So therefore the traditional methods of marketing whilst they still apply, are weighted less than previous. Any company must adapt and change in order to maintain that competitive advantage. It’s interesting that many businesses that are spending time and resources to leverage Facebook as an integrated piece of their marketing tactic and have become early adopters.

Research and logic has shown, the more you interact with your customers and the more they interact with you, the more likely you are to show up in their Top News feed. Whilst this may seem logical there are many companies that spend the majority of their time updating their status without actually interacting with their customers or Facebook fans thus forgoing the chance to develop loyalty and longer lasting relationships.

A recent study found that posting links show up more frequently than just posting status updates. Facebook gives more weight to updates that will drive user engagement and users are more likely to click on links. A status update that includes a link to a landing page for your free sample is more likely to make it into your customers’ Top News feed than if you posted an update indicating that you had free samples to give away.

Additionally, user engagement is even higher when posting photos and videos. This means posting a photo or video related to your sale is more likely to be seen by your customers than just a link or a lonely status update. Again this probably means a little more work from your end but if you’re after a positive user experience, interaction with photos and video is crucial in the implementation of the strategy.

But the best way to increase your chances of showing up in your customers’ Top News feeds is by getting them to interact with you. This means commenting on what they are posting and trying to find creative ways to get them to comment on your posts. If you post interesting links to your blog, post them to your Facebook account as well. Those 5 customers who comment today are 5 customers who may see you’re having a sale next week. Interaction equals visibility.

Another interesting point to note is that the more friends someone has the harder it is to break through to their Top News feed. This means that targeting customers with 200 or less friends will be more effective than those with 500+ friends. Essentially that means that there is less clutter to get through in order for your post or update to be viewed.

So if you’re wanting to get more fans and conversion, take the above points into consideration. You may also consider purchasing fans for your page to get initially started and through networks grow your page that way.

Bulklikes.com is a business that provides a service offering bulk Facebook fans for a cheap price. This helps to remove the time consuming and often tedious task of gaining fans and allows the company to focus on core business that will generate the most revenue.

Hopefully some of the above points have been helpful for you as you integrate Facebook into your marketing strategy.

The iPad 2: A Hierarchy of Needs

Posted by admin Comments (0)

After Apple’s latest iOS 4.2 update, the iPad has a lot of new features, not the least of which is Apple’s reasonable take on multitasking, Folders and a unified email inbox — all of which are features iPhone 4 owners have been enjoying for months now. Also awesome is AirPlay, which lets you stream music and video to an Apple TV.
